The Charles University in Prague, the Masaryk University in Brno and the
Mathematical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic have
jointly initiated a new centre supporting the development and exchange of
ideas throughout the Czech and foreign universities and institutes, and
providing a meeting place for leading experts in areas of Mathematics which
combine geometrical and algebraic approaches.
This project has been launched within the scheme "Centers of Excellence in
Basic Research", the Contracting Authority is the Czech Ministry for Youth,
Education and Sport.
Eduard Cech has been chosen in the name of the Centre because it was just
him who combined geometrical and algebraic thinking in his work and
contributed amazingly to the evolution of all three institutions involved in
the project at the same time.
